Shorewood HS Choir Recording

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Today I got to record the Shorewood High School Choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shoreline. The choir is conducted by John Hendrix and he always has a great sounding group. Have a listen to one of the rough mixes recorded today of Goin’ Up to Glory.

Nana

Yesterday, Jesica’s Nana passed away. This is an old photo taken in 2002 with a not so happy baby Brandon.

May it comfort friends and family that we are thinking and remembering you in our prayers.

Those We Love Remain Part of Us

Our loved ones leave the world, but never our hearts.

You will always remember. You will always love. So much has changed, but so much will always be…

Your loved one is part of who you are, of how you see the world…of how you live and give. Those priceless gifts are yours forever.

Race for the Cure 2006

Christian and Jesica are participating in the 2007 Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure in Seattle. Both did the race last year with Christian’s Grandmother Julie and had a blast doing it.

The Komen Race for the Cure helps raise awareness of the importance of a positive breast health program – annual mammography beginning at age 40, clinical breast exams at least every three years beginning at age 20 and annually at age 40, and monthly breast self-examinations for all women beginning by age 20.

Rush in the Studio

Yesterday, Rush released their first single “Far Cry” off the next studio album Snakes and Arrows due out on May 1st. Some of the guitar sound reminiscent of the earlier studio albums like Hemispheres.

Producer Nick Raskulinecz, a self-proclaimed fan of the band, reportedly encouraged Lee, Lifeson, and Peart to explore the limits of their renowned talents, he enthusiastically encouraged the band to incorporate the complex rhythmic and melodic patterns that characterized their earlier works. As for the engineering of the album, Raskulinecz made use of vintage microphones for several applications.

Dodgers

Christian’s Little League Baseball team this year is the Dodgers. The Reds are moving up to the Super 9’s, so Christian will be staying in the Farm league (Machine Pitch) again this year.

Returning from the Reds championship team this year is teammate Zack W. Teammates from the T-Ball Indians Lily and Jack will be joining the team. His friends Jordan, Charlie, Teddy, Zack P and Preston are on his team and joined will be joined by Brock, Benji, Bryce and Kameron.

Looks like a pretty strong lineup and we should have a pretty good year! Update on game dates soon.

Variax 300

I have 4 basses, an acoustic guitar, an alto sax, piano and several keyboards, but I didn’t own an electric guitar and whenever I needed to record, I borrowed one.  I needed one I could use for recording and was able to play all kinds of styles.  The Line 6 Variax 300 uses a technology called modeling and can emulate various vintage guitars.  I’ve had it for a couple weeks now and love the tones it can make.  My favorites so far are the Telecaster, Les Paul and Stratocaster models.

I will post a song on the blog soon.

Moon Over Morocco

Back in my early childhood I would listen to radio plays like The Hitchhicker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Fourth Tower of Inverness, the Star Wars Radio Drama and Sci-Fi Radio on the local NPR station KOUW. These radio shows actually were my inspiration to become a recording engineer and I produced my own drama/talk shows as a kid. The ZBS Foundation who created The Fourth Tower of Inverness is releasing it’s sequel Moon Over Morocco as a podcast. You can download all 50 episodes for free on their site www.zbs.org or click this link if you have iTunes installed:

Is this really March?

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

We got 6 inches of snow dumped on us last night. So much for Punxsutawney Phil’s (Groundhog) prediction that winter is over.
