Today the Dodgers got to play on the big boy field #1 vs the Blue Jays. This was a makeup game from a rain out a couple weeks ago. The cool thing about field one is that we get to have someone call the kids names on the PA system.
It was my first game as head coach and it was a little nerve racking being responsible for setting up the line up. There are all kinds of rules like every player has to play, someone has to sit in the dugout if you have more than 10, each player has to play 1 time in the outfield if they normally play in the infield and no player can play the same position more than twice in game. The list goes on and on.
The Dodgers put up a good fight, but lost the game by 1 run. A few too many defensive mistakes cost them the game such as not calling for the ball in the outfield and wrestling for the ball. The shortstop not playing their position in being the cut off man. The hesitation in throwing to the right plate. The third baseman not going to his bag and so on. We try to work on the basics with the kids at the practices and the ones that show up benefit, the ones who don’t are lost in the game.
Christian has continued to be very consistent on the plate with 3 hits. It’s been pretty cool to see him become a more complete player in the infield.
Final score: Blue Jays 17 – Dodgers 16 (although we are not suppose to keep score)
Next game is Tuesday vs the Orioles 7 pm.
