Pirates vs Dodgers

The Dodgers win despite not being focused this evening.  Maybe it was something in the drinking water, but most of the kids were in la la land…It was like T-ball all over again.

Christian has been solid again at the plate with 2 hits and 1 RBI.  There are a couple things he needs to work on like swinging all the way through a hit.  Once he starts doing this, he’ll get more power and hit it into deep outfield.  He also really needs to work on accuracy in throwing the ball to his teammates.  He seems to through to me fine, but is all over the place anytime else.

Final Score: Pirates 5 – Dodgers 11

Next game is Saturday at 11 AM vs the Royals.  See you there!

Score Card

After the rowdiness in the dugout during last Sunday’s game, coach Kevin had a talk with the team about staying focused. The kids responded by going out and winning the game with confidence. Every player including the weaker ones stepped up to the plate and produced.

I was appalled with the manager of the other team. He was the quote the rules to the other team type of guy and called us on every little thing. Yet he took every close call that benefited his team. We could have debated a few calls…In the end I didn’t really care if we won or loss, I just wanted to play a fair game and get the game over with.

He even called the rules wrong for weekday games and started the 6th inning an hour 36 minutes after the game start. We are not suppose to start an inning an hour and a half after the game starts. This turned into a late 2 hour game on a school night and all because his team was down 17-10. They didn’t even help clean up the field when the game was over. We didn’t get home until 9:30 pm.  I hope we don’t have to play against them in the playoffs.

Little League Day is this Saturday and we don’t have a game until next Monday at 5 pm against the Pirates. See you there!

Blue Jays vs Dodgers 2

Today the Dodgers got to play on the big boy field #1 vs the Blue Jays. This was a makeup game from a rain out a couple weeks ago. The cool thing about field one is that we get to have someone call the kids names on the PA system.

It was my first game as head coach and it was a little nerve racking being responsible for setting up the line up. There are all kinds of rules like every player has to play, someone has to sit in the dugout if you have more than 10, each player has to play 1 time in the outfield if they normally play in the infield and no player can play the same position more than twice in game. The list goes on and on.

The Dodgers put up a good fight, but lost the game by 1 run. A few too many defensive mistakes cost them the game such as not calling for the ball in the outfield and wrestling for the ball. The shortstop not playing their position in being the cut off man. The hesitation in throwing to the right plate. The third baseman not going to his bag and so on. We try to work on the basics with the kids at the practices and the ones that show up benefit, the ones who don’t are lost in the game.

Christian has continued to be very consistent on the plate with 3 hits. It’s been pretty cool to see him become a more complete player in the infield.

Final score: Blue Jays 17 – Dodgers 16 (although we are not suppose to keep score)

Next game is Tuesday vs the Orioles 7 pm.

Blue Jays vs Dodgers

Due to a rain out of last Monday’s game against the Blue Jays, we will be replaying the game this coming Sunday, April 22nd on Field 1 at 3 PM. I believe I will be the manager for the game since Coach Kevin has other commitments.

Last Friday the Dodgers played against the Cardinals and struggled both on the field and the plate. I’m not sure if it was the rain or how late the game was, but we played better as a group of six than a team of nine. This game also showed that our team has not had enough practices and this has been hurting us during games.

Our next 3 games are tonight at 5 PM vs the Yankees, Saturday the 21st at 11 AM vs the Mariners and Sunday vs the Blue Jays. See you there!

Dodgers vs A’s

What a game! Look at that focused bunch. The Dodgers only had 6 players tonight, but that didn’t really matter. They had great defense and awesome run production. In 5 innings we scored 5 runs every time we were up to bat.

Christian got down and dirty with an awesome defensive stop at pitcher tonight. He had several hits and RBIs. Coach made all the players do push ups if they didn’t hit including Christian. A few players had triples, most had doubles and Benji had a grand slam home run.

I felt sorry for the other team. Their only player who has played in farm was down in Arizona for the weekend. 3 players played T-ball last year and the rest were just starting out.

Our next game is at home 5 PM Monday vs the Blue Jays. See you there.

Christian - Red vs Dodgers

Christian’s team is 1 and 2 in their games so far. They played the Phillies on Friday and got shut down as far as runs go. Christian had 3 hits and threw 2 outs at 2nd base. Special thanks to his teacher Ms. Lawrence for coming out to the game!

The Dodgers played the new Reds team on Monday and the bats finally came alive. They scored 15 runs and the Reds had 9. Christian continues to have solid hit production at the plate with 3 hits. He had a 9-3 double play while playing first base. It’s been nice to see Christian playing the infield a lot this year and our practice on Saturday helped with the kids defense.

Next game is 7 PM on Friday against the A’s. See you there!
